Alumni Beach Dodgeball Fundraiser
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Who are the organizers of the dodgeball tournament?
We are a group of six NewGround alumni, from different cohorts, who came together to submit a workshop proposal at the 2015 Parliament of the World's Religions Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah. Our proposal has been accepted to present "Relationship Building As An Antidote to Hate: Muslim Jewish Vision for Peace." Through this workshop, we will highlight why NewGround works so well as an interfaith model, and demonstrate the possibilities that emerge when two groups come together and build relationships. This was a highly competitive process, as the Parliament is an international organization, and they received an overwhelming number of proposals! And yet, our proposal was chosen from these many applications!
Why are we raising money?
NewGround has meant a lot to each of us as the foundation of our friendships across religious differences. We are excited for this opportunity to show the international interfaith community the power of NewGround through its model of building relationships, collaborations, and communities. All the money raised will be used to first fund the six NewGround alumni traveling to the Parliament in Salt Lake City, and the remaining funds will go back to NewGround for other projects and initiatives.
What is the Parliament of the World's Religions?
The Parliament is the oldest, the largest, and the most inclusive gathering of people of all faith and traditions. The first Parliament took place in 1893. Since then, this historic event has taken place in Chicago, USA; Cape Town, South Africa; Barcelona, Spain; Melbourne, Australia, and now in Salt Lake City, Utah. Its mission is to promote understanding, cooperation, and collaboration among religious communities. Click HERE for more about the Parliament.
In the 2015 Parliament, prominent world faith leaders are attending including, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama; Dr. Tariq Ramadan, Rabbi David Saperstein, Dr. Eboo Patel, Karen Armstrong, and Nobel Peace Laureates Mairead Mahuire. For a full list of all the major speakers, click HERE. The Parliament is an amazing venue to share what we have learned at NewGround with other members of the interfaith movement from around the world!
What is the goal of presenting our workshop at the Parliament of the World's Religions?
Our intention and goal is to inspire the attendees to build relationships, and create new ground, by applying the NewGround model in their home countries and communities.
What can YOU do?
We need to raise funds to travel to Salt Lake City, provide housing for our group of 6, and cover registration fees, and we can't do it without you! Please donate more generously; and invite your family, and friends, to join you for beach dodgeball and more fun activities!
I cannot attend the event on Sunday, September 20th, but still want to support NewGround alumni, how can I help?
Thank you for this intention, and question! There are several ways you may support us. Please register, none the less, and donate in whatever generous amount that is possible for you. Also, we would appreciate any physical donations for the event such as water, snacks, dodge balls, etc.  Last but not the least, you would help us greatly by encouraging your family and friends to participate, and get involved with NewGround!
