Q: What type of performance would you like to make?
A: I have a song “Reach” that is featured in a music video that won best music video for 2009 that speaks to the troubled youth in our culture hopefully inspiring them to reach out and be part of “one world”, “one voice”, peace. I am Jewish. I have experienced bigotry for the first time two days ago.
I want to be part of the solution and a beacon of light through sharing my music.

Q: In a one-paragraph statement, please share the concept of your performance.
A: I will be performing a staged reading of a piece about how words limit and enhance our understanding of the other — including digging into the meanings behind the words “Israel” and “Jihad” and how they are, in essence, synonyms with completely different modern connotations. There is a piece of the essay involving foreign words that are difficult to pronounce, and I envision reading from index cards and tossing them across the stage in a show of the ephemeral, overwhelming nature of words. It would be interesting, also, to have a projector behind me with definitions scrolling through, if possible.

Q: In a one-paragraph statement, please share the concept of your performance.
A: I grew up in urban new jersey, knowing that my biological grandfather was Jewish. My grandmother was Black and Baptist. I was raised Muslim. Currently I am a preschool teacher at a Jewish preschool and have been proudly since 2009. I consider my faith to be both Judaism and Islam. My pieces will revolve around the idea that both Judaism and Islam can co-exist. It will be personal, and revolve around multiple identities (Black, Queer, Muslim, Jewish)

Q: In a one-paragraph statement, please share the concept of your performance.
A: Both my parents and my grandmother came from Germany to Los Angeles after the Holocaust. As I grew up in the 1960’s in the diverse Olympic – La Brea neighborhood of L.A., I began to realize that their life stories were unusual. That not everyone had parents who spoke German in hushed tones, lost family members in camps, who hid in strangers’ homes, who landed fractured and broken, in Los Angeles, and faced life looking forward while negotiating the difficult past.
